Preparations for my vegetable garden are taking up a lot of my energy, chapters will be sporadic for a while.
Two hours later
As the sun sets, magical streetlights light up across the city. Even at this point, the shops facing the main street are still doing a brisk business.
“I’m back!” Erika
“Oh, you’ve made it back safe?” Allen
Allen was drinking tea by himself on the terrace of the coffee shop when Erika and Charlotte returned. They’re both smiling and their skin has a smooth sheen.
“Oh, it was super delicious. We went to the restaurant specializing in cheese. We ate so much!” Charlotte
“Seconded, I’m full.” Erika
“Hmm, that’s good. Well then… it’s about time for… huh?” Allen
Allen smiles at Charlotte, but suddenly something catches his eye on the main street. He stands up and takes a quick breath.
“You there! You look pretty courageous sneaking off! Why don’t you get back to picking up trash!” Allen
“Yes, yes! I’m sorry!” Rogue G stutters while trembling and bowing.
Because of Allen’s shout, there’s various rogues and adventurers located along the main street trembling with blue faces. Everyone is tattered and some have wounds, though Allen wishes it didn’t come to that. They’ve been forced into doing various good deeds, picking up trash, carrying packages for the elderly, or erasing graffiti on the walls.
The domineering and insensitive adventurers have disappeared and they’re currently dedicated to public service. This is the result of Allen’s re-education training while Charlotte and Erika went to the restaurant.
“Well, that was really amazing Mr. Customer.” Shopkeeper retorts with a bit of a laugh.
“Oh, really shopkeeper?” Allen
It seems she’s about to close down her shop and go home. She squints at the adventurers.
“Normally, they’d be beating up people, littering, and disrupting the peace with their arguments… Everyone was scared. Nobody would have thought they could change.” Shopkeeper
“But, how did you do it?” Charlotte
“After this… the name of the Great Demon Lord will take root in the city. When you hear his name, everyone will fear his wrath.” Erika
“Hmm, I’m used to that sort of reaction.” Allen
“What on earth did you get up to while we were gone…” Charlotte wonders, but chooses against any followup questions.
“Well, don’t think too hard on it. I just took a personal interest in them.” Allen comments with a shrug.
“Haha, that’s an interesting take.” Shopkeeper says as she laughs while glancing over at Charlotte.
“I’m glad you had a reliable lover. It’s nice that it’s taken care of.” Shopkeeper
“Well, uhh…” Charlotte
“No, uh, shopkeeper. We aren’t quite…” Allen
By no means do they have such an intimate relationship. But for some reason he can’t easily deny it.
Thanks to the shopkeeper’s comment, Allen and Charlotte drift off into silence. The shopkeeper grins at the two who can’t find their words.
“Oh, I see… that’s it?” Shopkeeper
“What do you mean by it?” Allen
For some reason, Erika nods along with the shopkeeper’s comment. What’s she agreeing with Allen wonders. Allen wasn’t able to give a good retort, and while he’s trying to think of a better retort, the shopkeeper bows her head and leaves.
