The Chaos of Novelization
June 2022
For June, I’m writing about the website, how it’s built, my rules for it, and some future improvements I’m working on.
May 2022
I was going to write about how I edit chapters, but instead this month is all about extra chapters…
Birthday Month! Extra Chapters!
21 extra chapters over the month! Every weekend in May gets an extra chapter each day! Every day of the week of my birthday gets two extra chapters, see the table below for release dates.
April 2022
Oops, I forgot to set this post out of draft, enjoy this belated re-introduction.
So, I wanted to play with some new web technology, so I’m resurrecting this project. The Red Shinigami series has reasonably short chapters, so I’m breezing through them. When I’ve caught up to the manga or the first 50 (whichever comes first), I’ll drop the first 15 and then release daily until I’ve done the WN, hopefully.
February 2021
January 2021
So I’m starting a new series that isn’t being translated on NovelUpdates already! Also, most of the chapters are shorter than a short Slow Life chapter!
Well, the first series was for my own entertainment more than anything else, so I don’t consider it too important that I can’t put it on NovelUpdates. Even if I keep to the normal schedule, I won’t finish it til sometime in 2022, but that’s better than 2026!
December 2020 Thoughts
New scheduler (v3) is working, but I’m still not always getting things done by saturday night. I’ll try to improve.
November 2020
So after a hiatus to rebuild a backlog and change the dialogue format, I’m back to releasing chapters.
I’m looking at bringing in remark commenting, I’ll run them on a Lightsail server. It will be as small as possible to reduce my costs. I don’t want the comments to load by default, as I’m trying to keep the site loading as fast and small as possible.
October 2020
So now we’ve made it into October. I’ve gotten myself organized enough to keep
pushing out 9 chapters a week, somehow. Sometime I’ll need to get more ahead
of the queue so I can have a full week of reviewed posts on hand. I’m not going
to look at a new series until December, but I’d like to add a new series on
January 1, 2021. We’ll see what can happen then.
September 2020
Hopefully this month is the month I spend editing and publishing, with little time spent on messing with the website. I spent the end of August getting the first chapters ready, but more time was spent getting the website setup so I don’t need to spend time on it. I edit each chapter, give it a few days or few chapters, then come back to review it. I fix any problems I notice, then mark it as ready to go out on the next free day.
August 2020
Started work on the first series backlog. Setup the website with a Cloudfront CDN, easy deployment, etc. Most time was spent on setup.
Starting a new Hobby
I got tired of waiting so long for series I liked or not being able to read certain series. Obviously I could just sit down and read the Google Translated version, but I want to fix the problem, not put a band aid on it. Blame open source, their refrain is ‘If you don’t like it, fork it!’. I can’t fork the existing translation, but I can start from scratch on my own!
