065: Second Night of Aristocratic Exchange Party
Settings
The venue has more and fancier decorations than yesterday, and many aristocrats are already in the venue.
A maid pours drinks for aristocrats with polite movements, then moves to the next person. She’s making it quick, but not so fast that it would be rude. She gives a nod when she’s run out of liquid in her pitcher, then withdraws. Luxurious dishes are brought out one after another, they have fragrant smells that tickle the nostrils of anyone nearby. It complements the chatter of the conversations, and I can hear laughter and cheers rising from here and there. I’d definitely like to enjoy some wine tonight.
“Excuse me, can I get some red wine?” Al
“Yes, here’s some fruit juice.” Waiter
The waiter hands me a glass of fruit juice from a tray while smiling. When I look closer, it seems to be the same person as yesterday. I tried to ask other waiters, but they gave the same answer. The duke’s servants are cohesive in their enforcement of the rules. It seems that I can only have fruit juice, well I guess I’ll go sit on the edge of the venue.
My parents, Nord and Elna, have gone to speak to an aristocrat they have good relations with. I spent a little time greeting aristocrats with them, but was dismissed after a short while. It can’t be helped if they’re getting into adult conversation, kids don’t want to listen to them. After a while, Eric came over, he’s probably in the same situation.
“Did you bring more mayonnaise?” Eric
What kind of greeting is this?
“Yes, I brought some.” Al
I would hate to have my clothes messed up like yesterday, so I hand over a small bottle I had prepared. Eric took it out of my hand, then picked up a vegetable from the table.
“After all, I need it to eat vegetables.” Eric
What to do? I’m also hungry. I grab a purple vegetable stick from the platter, it’s hard like a carrot, but I wonder what the taste is like? First, I’ll try it raw, it’s moist and tastes like a cucumber. I wonder if it tastes better because of the color. When I had purple cabbage, it just tasted like regular cabbage, but the nutritional content was better for you. I wonder how it would taste with mayonnaise, I try to dip it in the bottle I gave Eric.
“What’s wrong, I want to see if this is improved?” Al
“No, this is all I have. Don’t you have your own share? Or do you like sharing dishes with other people?” Eric
“Don’t make me out to be a person who tries to do weird things?” Al
“Oh, right. You only do that with the younger daughter of the Misfeed family.” Eric
“Not at all! What are you implying? Don’t come back to me for more mayonnaise.” Al
“What are you two doing?” Shelka
We’ll have to talk about Eric’s poor timing, but we didn’t try to escape from the voice. It seems this didn’t entertain the weird women around the edge. It seems like there’s plenty here just like Koriat Village. Is the royal capital doing ok?
Looking back for the voice, Ra-chan and Shelka were there. Ra-chan is wearing a gorgeous pink dress, it has less frills and easier to move around in than yesterday’s dress. Shelka is wearing a blue dress and blue rose hair ornaments, giving her a calm atmosphere. The blue suits her long platinum hair.
“Al, what are you eating?” Shelka
“Hmm? Some sort of vegetable? It’s good when you put some of the sauce that Eric has on it. Mayonnaise, right?” Al
Ra-chan looks at the vegetable I’m holding, the mayonnaise, then nods in appreciation. She look at Eric and shouts out.
“Ah, Eric, who hates vegetables, is eating vegetables!” Lana
How does Ra-chan know that Eric hates vegetables?
“Are you bad at eating vegetables?” Shelka
“Well, not after I got some of this.” Eric
Eric blushes and holds out the bottle of mayonnaise after Shelka asks him.
“I also like it with mayonnaise.” Al
“No! I told you yesterday to not share food except with special people!” Shelka
I’m glad it didn’t turn into a murderous atmosphere, but it looks to be interesting again tonight.
Ra-chan pulls on my sleeve and asks me.
“Hey, is it true that Al can use magic?” Lana
“That’s right, but who did you hear that from?” Al
The only time I’ve used magic in front of Ra-chan was when I produced cookies using Spatial Magic.
“Eric said that Al can use magic.” Lana
“Ah, I see” Al
Yeah, I guess I did blind Eric with Light magic yesterday. If I didn’t do that, I was worried he would have bit me.
“Ra-chan’s house has famous wizards in it, right?” Al
The author of the beginner magic book was Julius Misfeed, that must mean that Ra-chan is a descendent of that person.
“Yeah! That’s right! Dad, mom, and sister can all use great magic!” Lana
“Oh, so everyone can use cool magic.” Al
As expected of a famous magic aristocrat family, everyone has a talent for magic.
“Then, will Ra-chan be a great wizard in the future?” Al
“Yeah, I want to be a powerful wizard like my sister! But I can’t use it well yet…” Lana
Ra-chan eyes shine for the first part, but then she gets dejected. Her expressions are as clear as ever. Certainly, magic can be difficult at the beginning since it’s hard to concentrate. You have to concentrate on both the structure and amount of magic energy at the same time. I also had a lot of trouble manipulating magic energy at the beginning.
From when I was a baby til I was three years old, I practiced with Light magic. It was painfully slow. It’s frustrating that the control of magic energy takes so long to get used to it. I don’t know of any quicker way, but now I’m used to it. Though, I didn’t really have much else to do, so I could just practice magic. With that in mind, I’m grateful that God taught me how to practice so early. Thanks to that early start, I’m able to use Spatial Magic now. Should I recommend practicing with Light magic?
“Hey, I can show you the way I learned, but can you use Attribute-less Magic?” Al
“Attribute-less? You mean Light magic?” Lana
“Yeah, so the point it to use magic casually in your daily life. Like, use Wind Magic to circulate the air in your room!” Al
“Can you use magic for that?” Lana
“There is also a way to use magic to repel your sister.” Al
“Tell me!” Lana
“Hmm, but you can’t say that I taught you, ok?” Al
“Yeah, I won’t tell on you.” Lana
It was at that point Shelka came over to see what we were talking about. It seems she’s worried that Ra-chan is unsupervised around me. From a while ago, Shelka was glancing over at us between talking with her friends.
“What are you two talking about?” Shelka
“Various things about magic” Al
I reply confidently to the suspicious Shelka, she looks into my eyes doubtfully while saying ‘Hmm’.
“Hey, Al! Can you use it now?” Lana
Ra-chan whispers into my ear.
“No, it wouldn’t be effective to use it now.” Al
“Is that so?” Lana
“What are you two whispering about?” Eric
Uhh, is Eric angry about being excluded?
“No matter how calm I am, I’ll want to hit him, so please stop.” Shelka
What’s calm about a person who tried to attack someone with cutlery? Is she going to pick up a spoon and scoop out eyes this time? I’m going to get in trouble, so let’s change the topic.
“By the way, why is Shelka going to the magic academy? I thought the age of enrollment was 12 years old?” Al
Haha, I’ll get us off the previous topic by letting her talk about herself. When I ask, Shelka answers casually, while playing with her bangs.
“I… skipped some grades. With sufficient ability and talent, the age will be overlooked. Plus my father is on the school’s board.” Shelka
“Ah, I see” Al
“Oh, do you also want to enter the magic academy?” Shelka
“No, I don’t feel like that’s a good fit for me.” Al
That’d be a punishment, having to go to school for years when you reincarnate into another world.
“So…” Shelka
