021: Rumba and the Forest
Settings
I think it’s been about a week since Rumba came to visit Koriat Village? I didn’t think he’d want to stay in the Lord’s mansion the whole time, so I offered my secret base house for him to stay at. That being said, it should be a more luxurious accommodation that your average village inn.
That being said, there were some restrictions. I’m not going to be cooking for Rumba every day, so he’ll have to go the Celia’s restaurant or cook for himself. Rumba can earn money by hunting in the mountains, though it seems he also has a reasonable amount of money on him too.
I should think about building a new secret base soon.
I thought it would be a good idea to get some experience with an adventurer, so I asked if he wanted to explore the forest some today. Rumba is currently staying rent-free, so he doesn’t mind doing some minor favors for me.
“I asked Nord, but is it really ok to not bring Eleanora along?” Rumba
“Because if Eleanora came along, I’m going to get attacked somehow.” Al
“Ah, so that’s happened before.” Rumba
Rumba doesn’t move like the robot Roomba, he’s silent while the Roomba can’t move without vacuum noises. Rumba also has a function to get rid of monsters, I wonder how many generations it will take to get a Roomba with that functionality. When I’m walking, I can’t walk as silently as Rumba, I can hear me stepping on branches and soil.
“Can you look more carefully when walking? You’re making it obvious you’re moving around?” Rumba
“I understand. I’ll do my best.” Al
I try to walk on softer surfaces and not step on branches. I’ll try to approach deer and rabbits without alerting them, but that hasn’t work yet. Meanwhile, Rumba crouches in the grass and moves through silently to a boar, which he attacks with a flying stone. How is he so silent with such a large body?
The wild boar rushes towards Rumba after being hit with the stone. Rumba grabbed the boar with his large arms and tossed it away, it’s sensational. After dispatching the boar, he blocks me when I tried to move forward.
“What’s happened?” Al
“There’s a monster, it’s a single goblin.” Rumba
“A Monster?!” Al
When I heard monster, I stiffened from the spine-chilling word. I carefully peek ahead to see where it is. There’s a bit of swaying vegetation, then a goblin appeared from the bush. A small green body with sharp ears and a large nose in the middle of the face. I wonder if it got lost from a larger pack.
“Have you ever seen a monster before?” Rumba
I’d only seen another monster once, a Wind Wolf, which was a wolf-like monster with a white coat. I immediately escaped via Transfer as it was terrifying.
“Well, it’s only one small goblin. Dangerous ones have a sword, but this one just has a stick, so it’s weak. Al, want to try out your sword skills on it?” Rumba
“A heavy stick is plenty dangerous for a six-year-old child. If I have to fight it, I’ll use magic.” Al
“Oh right, your talents are in magic.” Rumba
While we were engaged in our quiet discussion, it started to wander over in our direction. Then it saw us and started to charge us with a dumb roar.
“If you want to defeat it with magic, are you going to wait til it gets closer? If you wait too long it will be a close combat fight?” Rumba
Rumba grabs the pommel of his sword while observing the goblin.
“What? Where’d you go Al?” Rumba
“Here!” Al
I’ve retreated a bit before Rumba realized it.
“What? Why are you back there?” Rumba
“I’m scared of the monster.” Al
“You shouldn’t be that scared!” Rumba
Eh? I actually used transfer magic to jump back to about thirty meters from the goblin. Rumba has apparently decided that I should defeat the goblin, so he runs towards me while the goblin chases him. Rumba can run faster than the goblin since his legs are much longer, so they’re not that close together. I use Ice Magic to form two icicles. The air in front of me cools down and two icicles form.
“Rumba! Jump to one side so I can hit the goblin with some magic!” Al
“Gotcha!” Rumba
My line of fire to the goblin is cleared when Rumba jumps to the side between two trees. Sorry, Rumba, this would have been easier if I hadn’t backed up so much. I imagine a ballista in my mind to visualize how to hurl the icicles.
“Ballista!” Al
The icicles crash into the goblin with a large crash and destroy some of the goblin’s chest and blow off the arm. The goblin’s blood was purple, unlike a human’s red. If it was red, I might have vomited from the shock. When I approached the goblin to check on it, it seems that it was killed instantly. Killing a humanoid was putting me in an ill humor, I’ll probably have a nightmare about it.
I’ve previously hunted some rabbits and few wild boars to give Bartolo some extra meat to cook, but this one is different. Even if it was called a monster, the humanoid shape messed me up. Perhaps it’s because I killed it at a distance with magic?
“Fuu” Rumba
Rumba stands beside me without trying to talk to me.
“This is depressing…” Al
“That was some magic…” Rumba
No, Rumba. Let me have some time to think…
