017: Dragon Slayer

Make water with water magic, then heat it up with fire magic, then make Rumba get into the hot water to clean a muddy Rumba.
“This is a better bath than some of the luxury inns in the capital I’ve stayed in. You’ve even got soap that doesn’t smell bad. This actually smells good!” Rumba
Obviously, you shouldn’t underestimate a Japanese person who wants to be hospitable. While the bath may be on the smaller side, the amenities are hard to beat in this world. While he’s enjoying the bath, I’ll make some food to eat, I figure he’ll eat a bunch, so I’ll grab some ingredients from my subspace.
About 30 minutes later, Rumba emerged from the bathroom. He’s letting his clothes soak to get out the dirt, so he just has a cloth covering his privates.
“Muscles are amazing” Al
“Isn’t is Al? You should make sure to build muscle too?” Rumba
“At age six, my muscles are lean. I can’t grow them out.” Al
“Hm? You’re really only six-years-old? You seemed to have the maturity of a ten-year-old?” Rumba
“If I was ten, I’d be taller.” Al
“Is that right? Hahahaha!” Rumba
Maybe if you’re a giant Rumba, 6 vs 10 years wouldn’t matter that much…
“Oh, want some ale?” Al
“Oh, you know about alcohol. Are you really six?” Rumba
“Yes, really six years old.” Al
Rumba brings one my Earth Magic mugs to his mouth while giving me a bit of a side-eye.
“Is this for real? It’s actually cold! Do you have an Ice Magic tool?” Rumba
“No, I just chilled it with Ice Magic.” Al
“You keep telling me you’re only six, but you can use Ice Magic? That’s pretty rare, I’ve only heard about one other user, a princess of this country.” Rumba
“Have you spent time in the Royal Capital?” Al
“Ok, let’s talk over this food.” Rumba
“I didn’t get this food from someone, I made it.” Al
I pulled out the food from my Spatial Magic while Rumba was cleaning up.
“Oh, you’ve made the legendary spaghetti!” Rumba
“Hmm? Is that it’s become known as?” Al
“Mgh… I met someone who mentioned it… Mgh… Triela.” Rumba
Once I showed him an efficient way to eat the spaghetti, Rumba rolls up the spaghetti with a fork and starts shoveling it down. He looks a bit silly with the amount and speed he’s eating, like a chipmunk.
“Ah, Mr. Triela?” Al
Triela is a merchant that comes by Koriat Village. Last year, he let the women know we had purchased some sugar. His excuse for this intelligence leak was “If I turn the women of Koriat into an enemy, I’ll never get to do business here again!” That was a week of stress, this year I want to get back at him somehow.
“Hey, you still there? What happened.” Rumba
“Don’t worry, it’s personal business.” Al
“Oh, something like that? Well, can I get another serving?” Rumba
“Am I your mother… " Al
I thought it would be a good idea to ply Rumba for information while I make a new serving of spaghetti.
“What possessed you to visit Koriat Village?” Al
“It’s not a secret. Basically, I’m an adventurer registered in Misfilt Kingdom, I’m the fifth highest B Rank adventurer. I’ve always liked to travel around every so often, so I’ll go on trips to villages when I feel like it. When I was talking with Triela, this village piqued my interest, so I thought I’d travel here.” Rumba
“I see, that’s why you traveled here. I don’t think I’ve heard of any other adventurers vising recently. It seems this village is far from the Royal Capital.” Al
The Misfilt Kingdom is the country that Koriat Village belongs to. The population in and around the royal capital is around 100,000 people, while Koriat Village has around 400. You might think there’s not that many, but there’s a good number of farmers that don’t live in the village center. Recently, it seems like the village is picking up some new immigrants from recent windfalls.
“Indeed, it’s pretty far away. I’m a high-ranked adventurer, but it took me a while to get here.” Rumba
“So what are your current plans?” Al
“This village seems pretty cozy, I think I’ll stick around for a while.” Rumba
“Where are you planning on staying.” Al
“This house seems pretty nice, maybe here?” Rumba
That’s exactly what I expected.
“Hmm, I don’t mind. But you’ll need to handle cleaning and cooking for yourself.” Al
“What? Aren’t you living here?” Rumba
It seems Rumba is confused by my response.
“No, this is a second residence for me, I spend most of my time in the mansion nearby.” Al
“Mansion? Are you a noble or something.” Rumba
“Yes, I’m the second son of the Slowlette family.” Al
“I wouldn’t have expected that at all… Slowlette? For real? What’s the full name of the lord?” Rumba
Nord… Nord Slowlette is the name of the lord.” Al
“The Dragon Slayer!” Rumba
Dragon Slayer? Where did that come from? Why hasn’t Nord mentioned that sort of accomplishment?
“What do you mean? Dragon Slayer?” Al
“Maybe about 12 years ago? A dragon was found to have taken up residence near the royal capital, and it was Nord who managed to chop off the dragon’s head.” Rumba
“Huh, he never mentioned that.” Al
Nord had said he was an accomplished adventurer, but he hadn’t talked about any specific job. Was he embarrassed? I should check into this when I get back…
“At that time, we were in the same adventuring party. But it was a short time partnership, that was an unforgettable time.” Rumba
Rumba has started to reminisce to himself about that time. I wonder if Nord detested his sudden jump in popularity from that event.
Afterwards, I told him he should check in with my parents if he wants to stay in this house, so I brought him along to the mansion without complaints. If I just leave him along, I’d be worried about him. He’s not the sort of person you can leave to his own devices. In the case of Rumba, you’d worry about his ability to feed himself. Eleanora would probably love to have another person to practice swordsmanship with.
That sounds great.
Once we made it to the mansion, Sarah guided Rumba to the reception room and went to find Nord.
“Ah? Who is the guest that Al brought in?” Elna
My mother Elna came into the reception room wearing a noble-like expression.
“Oh! It’s that magician girl who was always flirting with Nord!” Rumba
“Eh? Rumba? That’s ancient history.” Elna
For a second, mother’s cheeks were flushed from embarrassment. This was the first time I’d seen her react like that. It’s so nice that she can have that sort of reaction at her age.
“Gahaha! Have you blocked out your memories of this fellow adventurer?” Rumba
“Perish the thought! Who could forget about Rumba?” Elna
I see, is this how Elna behaved before she had children?
“Hey, are you listening Al?” Elna
Elna seems to have realized I’m still in the room.
“Al, thanks for guiding this adventurer here. There’s some sweets in the living room you can enjoy.” Elna
Looks like Elna wants to stay dignified in front of her children, so she wants me out of the room while catching up with Rumba. I could act like a normal child and run to get some sweets, but I’d like to enjoy this situation a bit more first.
“Mother?” Al
“What?” Elna
“This was so informative.” Al
“Eh?!” Elna
Elna turns red from embarrassment again. So cute.
“Hahahaha!” Rumba
Rumba finds our exchange to be hilarious.
Before I got in trouble, I escaped from the reception room and headed to the living room to grab some sweets.
On the way I met Nord heading to the reception room.
“Oh! The Dragon Slayer!” Al
“What? Where did you hear about that? Wait!” Nord
I heard Nord calling from behind me, but I don’t want to wait up. That course of action sounds dangerous.
