Chapter 156: Black Carriage
Settings
The master carriage maker of a certain workshop is sweating during a meeting with a certain nobleman.
It’s the infamous Count Snake.
His back is soaked with sweat. If he wasn’t sitting down, his knees would be knocking!
Why did a nobleman come to my workshop? he shouts in his mind
He can’t turn away the noble, as it’s a huge opportunity. If only the commission wasn’t to create a carriage for the notorious and heinous demon snake.
Why do I have to make a carriage for a man-eating snake? he cries
He wonders if he will be treated as a shop that mainly serves villains after this, however, his fear of being eaten by a snake encourages him to accept the request.
Today I’m meeting a rancher of a horse ranch, one that is famous for providing horses for the Royal Family. They have beautiful horses, fast horses, etc.
My request is for “Three mighty horses!”
Of course, the ranch has powerful horses. The horses are used when power is desired instead of speed. They carry large cargo wagons, like for a merchant. The rancher hasn’t sold this type of horse to many nobles. Nobles nearly always purchase beautiful or fast horses. They want the beautiful horses to pull their luxurious carriages and the fast horses to ride during battles.
“So, you want strong horses? You don’t care about the looks?” Rancher
“Oh, I need them to pull a heavily loaded large carriage. It’s best to have the three be well-matched, since all three will be needed.” Patrick
At any rate, the rancher was too scared to refuse, so he sold three of his strongest horses to me. Each was twice the size of an ordinary horse.
“I look forward to working with you again.” Patrick
The rancher took the money and bowed.
I now own a huge jet-black carriage with no fancy decorations. It just has my family crest painted in red on the side, two snakes entwined around a dagger. The carriage is pulled by three huge black horses and is driven by an old dwarf I recently hired.
Next to the huge carriage is a regular-sized carriage with the Royal Crest, guarded by a Royal Guard knight on horseback. The two carriages are headed for the forest outside the Royal Capital. They carry Sonaris and I, along with attendants and maids.
In the huge carriage? Pi-chan
We were going on a picnic that also served as a meal for Pi-chan.
When we arrive, Sonaris and I lean against Pi-chan’s body. We’re in a relaxed mood.
Our attendants were not so relaxed, they had to travel in the carriage with Pi-chan. Ordinary people would have fainted.
While Pi-chan finds her lunch of monsters in the forest, I set up for a barbecue.
“This is a man’s traditional home cooking, what do you think?” Patrick
Sonaris insisted on trying some, so I grilled some meat on iron skewers over charcoal. I’m using charcoal despite its cost, since it has higher heat with less smoke. The seasoning for the meat is soy sauce.
I love the smell of burning soy sauce.
In between sips from a glass of whiskey, I stuff my mouth with grilled meat from a skewer. The attendants and maids are also eating skewers in moderation. Any monsters that we should be wary of have already been eradicated by Pi-chan. I made sure to not drink so much alcohol I couldn’t take out a monster, just in case.
Our first outdoor date was a huge success.
