038: Chapter 2.5 ~ I'm not scared at night anymore ④
Settings
When Charlotte wakes up, she’s lying on a brand-new bed.
“Ah…” Charlotte
Charlotte takes her time waking up, as she rubs her eyelids she glances around her room. There’s a closet next to the bed, along with a writing desk and chair, and a bookshelf with plenty of space. It’s a simple and cozy space.
This is not the Evans family residence, but Charlotte’s room in Allen’s mansion.
When she looks out her window, there’s no sign of the morning sun, it’s still dark. She can’t hear any animals moving around, the outside is quiet.
“I feel like that was an important dream?” Charlotte
Charlotte can’t remember much of the nightmare, just the scary and painful feelings remained in her chest. She wonders if she dreamed she was back in the Evans residence.
It was a nightmare she occasionally had when she started to live in Allen’s mansion. At first, she slept so soundly she didn’t even dream, but as she’s become accustomed to her new life she’s starting to have dreams.
But… she wishes she could have a more enjoyable dream.
“Well, maybe it ended happily?” Charlotte
She feels like it wasn’t a complete nightmare, she remembers something warm at the end. Perhaps she dreamed of her sister Natalia?
Charlotte can’t remember the details, which left her a bit uncomfortable, but she didn’t didn’t want to go back to sleep.
She might go back into the bad parts of the dream, and she wouldn’t want that.
Charlotte rubs her arms, then quietly gets out of her bad. She’ll get some water and spend the time quietly until dawn appears.
She heads to the living room, but she’s surprised when she gets near as she sees there’s light leaking out from the room. She slowly opens the door and spies Allen sitting like normal on the sofa.
When he spots Charlotte, he raises a hand in a wave.
“Oh, huh? Have you woken up?” Allen
“Yes” Charlotte
Charlotte slowly approaches him.
Allen is surrounded with thick books and bundles of paper are piled on ottoman in front of him. It seems he’s stayed up late writing.
“Mr. Allen… are you working?” Charlotte
“Sort of, but not really” Allen answers with a shrug.
“So, there was this Magus I came across the other day.” Allen
“Oh, that rock man” Charlotte
It was about a week ago that Charlotte had gone to the city with Allen and Erika and they had all gotten caught up in a small commotion. One of the other people who had been involved was a Rock Man that was a former student of Allen.
“He let me know that he was interested in starting some training again, so I’m working on a special training routine.” Allen
“Is that so…” Charlotte
Charlotte can only consider the rock people as large and scary. Yet, Allen was able to talk him down and is continuing to help the Rock Man.
Charlotte wishes him good luck with the task.
“Yes, Allen is so kind.” Charlotte
“Well, if I have one skill, it’s disciplining students. One of my hobbies is writing up training routines for people.” Allen
“Huh?” Charlotte
“So, rock people are strong. He’ll just eat this up.” Allen
Allen flips through a thick stack of paper, Charlotte can make out words like magma, 3,000 meters below sea level, and 100 hour endurance run. She isn’t sure what is and isn’t a joke, but Charlotte has gotten a bit better at reading Allen. She thinks he’s mostly joking.
Although he’s a strange person… Allen is kind at his core Charlotte thinks.
Even if she said that, Allen wouldn’t know to respond, so Charlotte just smiles.
“I can’t get back to sleep. Can I sit with you?” Charlotte asks.
“of course…” Allen
Allen give a little nod and moves to make room for Charlotte. Suddenly, he seems to notice something and looks at Charlotte.
“Oh, yeah. This is a good opportunity, so let’s do that tonight.” Allen
“that?” Charlotte
“Of course…” Allen says as he raises his index finger and laughs mischeviously.
“It’s a nice thing that can only be done at night.” Allen
